Making sense of what's happening, together

Life can feel heavy when a child is struggling at school, a teenager seems withdrawn, or you simply don't feel like yourself. I'm an Educational Psychologist based in Doringkloof, Centurion, and I help individuals and families make sense of emotional, behavioural, learning and developmental concerns, and find practical, hopeful ways forward.

Whether you're a worried parent, a young person who isn't sure what to say, or an adult carrying a lot, you'll be met with patience and without judgement. We start where you are.

A gentle idea

Big things start small

Coming to see a psychologist is about growing, and growth is allowed to take its time.

  1. A seed Every strong tree once fit in the palm of a hand.
  2. Roots First we find your roots, the things that already keep you steady.
  3. A green shoot Then, little by little, something new begins to grow.
  4. Your tree With time and a little care, small steps become something strong.

Even the tallest tree started as a tiny seed.

Growth is rarely instant, but with the right support it takes root and lasts.

Common questions

Questions people ask me most

The things parents and clients usually want to know before they get in touch. If your question is somewhere else, please just ask.

How do I know if my child needs a psycho-educational assessment?

An assessment may be helpful if your child is finding learning, attention, concentration, reading, writing, mathematics, academic performance, emotional wellbeing, behaviour or school adjustment difficult. It can also be valuable where there are questions about giftedness, school readiness, subject choices or examination accommodations.

What is a psycho-educational assessment?

It is a thorough evaluation of a learner's cognitive, academic, emotional and behavioural functioning. The aim is to identify strengths, areas of difficulty and the factors affecting learning, and then to provide clear recommendations to support your child both at home and at school.

How long does an assessment take?

It depends on the reason for referral and the individual's age and needs. Most psycho-educational assessments take place over one or two sessions, followed by a detailed written report and a feedback session to talk through the findings together.

Can you diagnose ADHD?

Educational Psychologists are trained to assess attention, executive functioning and behavioural difficulties. Where there is sufficient evidence, ADHD may be identified during the assessment, and I'll recommend further medical consultation or treatment options where appropriate.

What is the difference between therapy and assessment?

An assessment is about understanding: gaining a deeper picture of someone's strengths, challenges and functioning. Therapy is about ongoing support: the intervention and strategies that help address emotional, behavioural, social or psychological concerns.

Do I need a referral?

No. Parents, caregivers, schools, medical professionals and individuals are all welcome to contact the practice directly to enquire about services.

Do you work with adults?

Yes. Therapy and certain assessments are available for adults. Adult clients often seek support for anxiety, stress, emotional wellbeing, life transitions, workplace challenges, relationships, ADHD-related concerns and personal growth.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. Everything shared in therapy and assessment is treated confidentially, in line with professional and ethical guidelines. There are a few specific situations where confidentiality may need to be limited, such as where there is a risk of harm to you or someone else, and I'll explain these clearly at our first appointment.

Does medical aid cover assessments and therapy?

Many medical aids offer benefits for psychological services, though cover varies by plan and available benefits. I'd encourage you to check directly with your medical aid to confirm your benefits before making an appointment.

What are examination accommodations?

These are support measures for learners who face barriers during formal assessments and examinations. Depending on the learner's needs and supporting evidence, they may include extra time, a reader, a scribe, spelling accommodations, a separate venue, rest breaks or the use of a computer. Final approval rests with the relevant examination authority.
